RESULTS
NEST: Winter Stations 2018
NEST is driven by the idea of creating a space of comfort and introspection within a system of complexity and disarray. Inspired by the impromptu structures that people would construct during public demonstration, it uses readily available materials in an unconventional way to create a unique form and experience. The overwhelming nature of information and everyday life is expressed through the chaotic texture and asymmetrical form of the installation. Composed of modular cells that contain a weave of colourful webs, NEST provides both shelter and playful moments of light and shadow within the space. Rigid structure and chaotic exterior is contrasted with the more calming simple interior. The internal experience allows the visitor to momentarily step away from the noise, pause, and view the world through a clear lens.

Elections for next year’s arc.soc committee are coming up! Be part of a team that works year-round to support student led initiatives at RyersonDAS. To apply, make a 1 min video any way you want that shows why you are the best candidate for the position. Fill out the google form by Feb 23 2018. Your peers will vote based on your videos. You may campaign until March 2, when the roles are announced Make your time as a Ryerson architecture student count!

Art Battle 2018
The first ever open art gallery and paint battle at RyersonDAS! A live showcase of creative and artistic talent of our students.Thank you to everyone who came out, submitted artwork and painted. Special thanks to faculty members of Ryerson Department of Architectural Science who helped organize and support this event. Congratulations to Daniel Gawel for being voted as best painter for the evening!

Upcoming Paint Night
Hope everyone is having a great break so far!
Ease your way back into architecture with RyersonDAS’s first Art Battle and open gallery. A live showcase of creative and artistic talent of our students! Participate in a live paint battle and/or submit art pieces to be displayed. Jan 18th 2018, lower atrium, 7-9 pm
Sign up to submit art or be one of 20 participants in the paint battle and face off against a mystery faculty member! All paints and supplies will be provided, further details will be released closer to the date.
Event is free to view, 2$ for food + a chance to vote for your fav piece, 5$ for food + participate. Winner of the live paint battle will receive an awesome prize!
Winter Formal
Celebrate the end of first semester with a night out! Hosted by arc.soc at the Aperture Room | 340 Yonge St. (third level). Treat yourself to a 3 course meal, a night of dancing and drinks (cash bar) after your last exam on Thursday, December 14.
Early bird tickets go on sale Monday Nov 27 - Nov 30, regular tickets from Dec 1-7 (11 am). See you all there! Buy your ticket from any arc.soc exec member.

Timber Fever 2017 Kicks Off
Now in its third year running, David from Moses Structural Engineers kicks off the event with some opening remarks
This is a four-day design-build competition from September 21-24, 2017 at Ryerson University. Join us for the TimberFever Awards Ceremony on Sunday September 24 at 4 p.m. in the Sears Atrium, George Vari Engineering Building, located at 245 Church St.

Timber Fever 2017 Signup
We are excited to announce that sign ups for Timber Fever 2017 is now open! TimberFever is an annual design-build competition presented by Moses Structural Engineers. We bring architecture and civil engineering students from universities across Ontario together to build a life-size structure out of wood.
Deadline to apply is Sept 12th

Timber Fever Update
Planning for this year's Timber Fever design build competition is underway. We are excited to be collaborating once again with Moses Structural Engineers and students of Ryerson's Department of Civil Engineering to bring you this event in September 2017.
The aim of this event is "to create collaboration between students of architecture and engineering, while developing design, construction and communication skills that will be invaluable to your future careers."

CANstruction 2017 Begins
Canstruction Toronto 2017 kicks off May 15th. This year, students from Ryerson's Department of Architectural Science are competing once again with CANtinue. Stop by the Toronto Dominion Centre (from May 15-19) to see sculptures completely made out of cans by members of the architecture, engineering and design community. All cans part of this spirited competition will be donated to The Daily Bread Food Bank.

Mosaic Quad 2017

arc.soc at Shinerama
Shinerama
The arc.soc team participated in Ryerson University's annual Shinerama fundraiser on Gould St. Along with the university's other societies, we helped raise money in support of Cystic Fibrosis, a fatal genetic disease affecting thousands of children and young adults.

Orientation: Day 1
The first-year students received a tour of the workshop, played ice breakers with their new sections, and took on the challenge of building a bridge that would support five loaded bags!
