SOMNIUM was inspired by the movement and translucency of fabric, water, and simple sea organisms. The design evolved from this exploration of material and an understanding that designing a holistic space, rather than individual objects, was crucial to creating an immersive and evocative experience.

“Silk, Light, & Movement” went through several iterations before our team settled on dynamic entities that were part and parcel of a whole. Fabrics were sourced and experimented with to understand the complexities and tectonics of different materials, and a variety of module typologies were developed. Some modules were mobile, expressing the undulation and movement of the material. Others were static juxtapositions within a changing scene.

The design team arrived to a single module that varies only in size and material, maintaining cohesion, flow, and simplicity within the whole.
