FRAKTUR explores ideas of expansion and contraction and how these ideas can be used to make a static room feel alive. This installation is inspired by the mechanics of organic beings, from the sensation of breathing to creatures that change form in response to changes in their environment. The room may evoke feelings of fear, claustrophobia, curiosity, or even comfort as visitors enter the space. In its neutral state, the walls appear to be a uniform jet-black. However as soon as it senses the presence of a wanderer, the walls of the room activate and come alive. The panels begin to expand and glowing cracks are revealed in the walls. Humans often encroach on nature without considering their impact, leaving nature to react defensively.
